How to winterize golf cart

As the winter season approaches, many golf cart owners are looking for ways to winterize their vehicles and protect them from the harsh weather conditions. Winterizing a golf cart is essential to ensure its longevity and performance during the colder months. Here are some tips on how to winterize a golf cart:

1. Clean and Inspect: Before winterizing the golf cart, it’s important to thoroughly clean the vehicle and inspect it for any damage or wear and tear. This includes checking the tires, brakes, and battery to ensure they are in good condition.

2. Change the Oil: It’s recommended to change the oil in the golf cart before storing it for the winter. Fresh oil will help protect the engine and ensure it runs smoothly when the cart is used again in the spring.

3. Protect the Battery:

There are two style batteries for Borcart golf cart, one is 48V150ah maintenance-free lead-acid battery, another is Lithium iron phosphate(LiFePO4), has CAN communication function and self-heating function in Cold weather,

Lead-acid batteries:

Do you have to winterize golf cart batteries? For lead-acid batteries, it’s essential to keep them fully charged during storage, as a discharged battery can freeze and become damaged.

Can I leave my battery charger on all winter? It’s not recommended, as it can lead to overcharging and damage. Instead, use a smart charger that automatically turns on and off to maintain the charge.

Lithium batteries:
Unlike lead-acid batteries, lithium batteries can be left connected during storage, as long as the cart’s main power switch is turned off.

Lithium batteries have a lower self-discharge rate, so they can generally be stored for longer periods without the need for recharging.

However, it’s still a good idea to check the charge level periodically during winter and recharge if needed.

 4. Add Fuel Stabilizer: Before storing the golf cart, adding a fuel stabilizer to the gas tank can help prevent the fuel from deteriorating and causing issues with the engine when the cart is used again.

Golf carts typically come with two types of batteries: lead-acid and lithium. Each has its own maintenance requirements and storage considerations.            We’ll always say this, but please follow whatever your manufacturer suggests!
